New XBoard ThemesThis is how XBoard looks by default: ![]() I wanted pieces that looked more like the ones in the chess book I've been reading (Bobby Fischer Teaches Chess - example pieces), and a color scheme based on those green vinyl boards you see everywhere. So I found a TrueType font online that had the right piece shapes, deleted the glyphs I didn't need, and then wrote a GIMP script to use the new font to generate a library of pixmaps for all of XBoard's supported resolutions. Here's the result: ![]() The script can be configured to use any RGB colors for the pieces and squares, or any GIMP patterns for the squares. Here are a couple more themes to demonstrate: ![]() ![]() Downloads The new green theme - put these pixmaps in a directory and run xboard with the "-pixmap" option. The script - if you don't like my color schemes you can edit this to change the color values and generate your own pixmaps. The font - if you use the script, install this font on your system so it will be accessible by GIMP. |
